Dresses, Blouses, Sweaters, Skirts, Pants and Jeans
These are all sized according to the same numerical system but use different body measurements.
- Dresses: dresses are sized based on your height, hip, waist and bust measurements. Your height determines which table you should use (Misses and Junior or Women’s and Women’s Petite). In the appropriate table, find your size based on your hip, waist and bust measurements. If your measurements don’t all end up in the same row (and they probably won’t), start with the largest size indicated and then consider whether a smaller size might work. This will depend on the style of the garment and what part of the body it must fit best.
- Blouses and sweaters: use your bust size, but pay attention to the sleeve length of long sleeved garments – men’s arms are usually longer. Also consider shoulder width – you may need a larger size.
- Skirts, pants and jeans: use your waist size. Generally, skirts have zipper closures with a button on the waistband although, of course, some have elasticized waist bands. Resist the temptation to go to a smaller size just because the waist is elasticised. Fitted skirts and pants are usually cut for hips 8 to 10 inches larger than the waist. If your hips measure more than 10 inches greater than your waist you will have to use your hip measurement in selecting skirts.

Misses and Junior
Misses sizes fit women with average figures who are 5’4″ to 5’7″ tall. Tall sizes fit women 5′ 7-1/2″ to 6′ (sizes 6-16). Tall Misses skirts are generally 2 to 4 inches longer than Misses skirts of the same size.
Women’s and Women’s Petite
Petite sizes fit women who are under 5’4″ tall.
Women’s sizes are proportioned to fit women with fuller figures who are 5’4″-5’7″ tall. Compared to misses sizes, women’s sizes have a slightly lower bustline and are cut fuller, especially at the high hip.
