The Social Night was, as usual, at the Pacific Inn. This turned out to be somewhat less than fun as the hotel had a large number of guests and they hadn’t increased the staff to compensate.
What happened was that dinner never appeared before 7:30 and getting a drink before that was a hit and miss affair. We’ve never had such terrible service in all the time we’ve been going there. Most of those who attended won’t go there again.
This past Tuesday night was the Cornbury dinner at Fay’s. Things were going quite nicely until we got the bill…we were informed that the minimum charge for using the banquet room was to spend at lest $150 on dinners. We didn’t – there were only 5 of us – and thus we were charged an extra $7.78 per person to make up the difference. To add insult to injury, the waiter added a 15% tip on top of this extra charge.
We were never told about either charge.
We complained and the waiter phoned the manager and was given permission to remove the extra charge but the tip stayed. Never had that before, either. And while the service wasn’t bad, it wasn’t worth 15% either (never offered us coffee).
It would appear that we will have to look for new places to go. To that end, it would be useful to hear from our members as to where they’d like to go. Areas are useful too – we’d like to go somewhere that most if not all of our members can attend. For example, New Westminster would appear to be most central but would require use of a tolled bridge.
This is NOT the time to be apathetic – please take the time to respond.
Oh boy, look at all those responses!
At the Monday night meeting, it was suggested that we stay at Fay’s (Sharon had talked with them and they apologized) but that we would leave The Pacific Inn (I’m not sure that’s fair but it is a long way from everyone [except me :)]
We also checked out two places in New Westminster. One was a bar and not suitable. The other is the Heritage Grill which might be. Even though they had live music (on a Monday night!!) they do have a back room but we weren’t able to find out if we could use it. Parking could be an issue but there did appear several spots nearby and the parking meters are not in affect. One might guess that it wouldn’t”t be much different than a Monday.
We’re still looking.
We’re still waiting for replies here, too.
I am backing away from looking into places. I think as a gorup you can decide as you see fit to have a place you can all go to and feel comfortable. I am currently involved with the the open meeting in New west. so it is difficult for me to search out a place. Feel free toss any idea back at me.
Hi Sharon, there is a nice White Spot at 6th/6th in New West (Royal city Centre Mall).–George
